Local History

We prefer face to face meetings as some group members do not have an internet connection and no one should feel excluded. In any event, the characters we meet during our studies managed quite well without the irritations of Zoom or Skype.

Our meeting include a 15-minute(ish) break for coffee and home-made cakes and follow Covid-19 guidelines as far as is practicable.

Our sessions advance chronologically through local history, set against the background of national and international events. Where appropriate, we interpose site visits between our 4-weekly meetings and handle contemporary artefacts and coins discovered locally by a co-operative metal detectorist. As we have now progressed to the high Middle Ages our passage through history is slowing as more and more historiography becomes available.

Our annual Christmas quiz will include questions based on the local history sessions staged during 2024. There will be a very special prize for the winner.
